Hello, all! My name is Jocelyn, and I’m a seventeen-year-old girl living in and from the United States. I am looking for email penpals from around the world. My only request is that you be within, say, three years of my age. I speak English and Spanish, so both are great to write in. English is my first language, and I’d like to practice my Spanish because I don’t always get to speak it as much as I’d like.
I guess I should start off by telling you my interests. I have lots of them, and they are pretty diverse. I am always up for trying new things as well. My current interests include history, art, theatre, reading, movies, soccer, nature, photography, politics, foreign languages, writing, travel, cooking, music, television, computers, ice skating, foreign cultures, dancing, and, well, just about anything, really.
I’m a junior in high school, so I’ll be graduating in June 2009. I get high scores in school, but I’m not necessarily the best student, because I’m easily distracted and a procrastinator. Also, it is my opinion that high school stifles creativity and original thought, teaching us to be mindless, crowd-following sheep. I have many more negative things I can say about high school, but, well, you get the idea. I can’t wait to graduate, and when I do, I first plan on taking some time off to travel around the world. I do not actually have much money, though, and while I’ll be saving money as soon as I find a new job, I may end up sleeping in bus stations. I think it’s worth it, though, to see and experience more of what the world has to offer. Anyway, after my adventures out in the world, I will go to a university and study international relations and Spanish, and then hopefully have an awesome job where I can really help people, like maybe at the United Nations. I want to understand the world so I can help fix some if its problems. There’s a lot of pain and suffering in the world. There’s beauty, too, though, and we have to be able to see that and be hopeful without ignoring all of the pain and suffering going on around us. My goal is to see the world, to experience the world, to understand the world, and to help the world. The specifics of that plan are not set in stone, but that is the big idea.
So, what else can I say about me? Well, these are some words I use to describe myself: spontaneous, crazy, intense, compassionate, creative, offbeat, adventurous, funny, emotional, daydreamer, intelligent, procrastinator, thoughtful, impulsive, extreme, artistic, opinionated, passionate, articulate, optimistic, forward-looking, observant, easily distracted, complicated, talkative…I guess those words sum me up, at least as well as a few words can sum up an entire human being. People are complex, myself included. And you, whoever you are.
I guess that’s all for now. If I told you everything now, what would we have to talk about in the future?
